Malik Ameen Aslam, an Advisor of Prime Minister on climate change said that the government of Pakistan has announced to impose a ban on the use of plastic shopping bags throughout the country to help mitigate the effects of climate change.
While addressing a ceremony in Hunza, Malik Ameen said that the necessary legislation will be made in the parliament to impose a complete ban on the usage of plastic bags across the country.
While addressing the inaugural ceremony of banning the increasing usage of plastic shopping bags, in Hunza on Monday, he said that Hunza became the first district in entire Asia to have imposed a complete ban on the use of shopping bags made by plastic.
Mr Aslam further announced to impose section 144 to ensure the strict enforcement of the ban in the district.
While appreciating the Hunza community for the step, Malik Aslam said that it was an excellent initiative. “Without an active cooperation of the local communities, it was impossible to take such a huge step,” he added.
Malik Aslam further said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, during his upcoming visit to China, would sign agreements with Chinese authorities to start the constriction of public parks in Gilgit-Baltistan.
